Lamp generates light with half-litre of salt water
, by Techxplore
The Waterlight lamp is a device that provides electric energy from the ionization of salt water in which electrical energy is generated when electrolytes in saltwater respond to contact with magnesium within the device.
An electrolyte created by salt water causes a reaction, transforming the Magnesium it contains into electric energy.
Acting as a mini power generator, the WaterLight also charges small devices such as a mobile phone and batteries via its integrated USB port with the clean and renewable energy generated.
The WaterLight device is waterproof, made from recycled resistant materials, and has a lifespan of about 5600 hours, equivalent to a few years of use.
